The Medal of Honor—often mistakenly called the "Congressional Medal of Honor"—is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States. It’s awarded to service members who perform acts of extraordinary bravery and self-sacrifice, going above and beyond the call of duty during combat.
To earn it, the individual must display conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity, often risking or sacrificing their life in the process. The award is presented by the President, in the name of Congress, and is reserved for the most heroic actions in military service.
Now meet our local Honorees:
PFC. Thomas Eugene "gene"
Atkins
These men are in all respect "Hero's". However I've never meet a Hero that said "Yes I am a Hero." They have and more than likely will always say "I was just doing my job". So for that reason I have chosen to call them Honorees. No disrespect intended.
