Post Clean up Day

Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9539 rolled up their sleeves and grabbed their rakes this weekend for a spirited Clean-Up Day that brought together veterans, and families,  in a show of pride and service.
The event, held on September 6th, aimed to refresh the grounds and facilities of the local post, ensuring it remains a welcoming space for veterans and guests. Tasks ranged from landscaping and pressure washing the patio to organizing the hall and polishing memorial plaques.
"We’re not just cleaning up a building—we’re preserving a legacy,” said Kevin McKeon, Post Commander. "This post has been a cornerstone for veterans in Spartanburg for decades, and it’s important that it reflects the honor and dignity of those who’ve served.”
Volunteers of all ages participated, who shared stories over coffee and donuts. The camaraderie was palpable, with laughter echoing between wheelbarrows and weed whackers.
The day wrapped up with lunch and a heartfelt thank you form the Commander and his Officers, reminding everyone why the VFW exists: to honor service, build community, and support one another.
The post plans to host more community events in the coming months, including a Veterans Day celebration and a holiday toy drive.
